Welcome to Fairfax!
From the historic district of Old Town to the quaint campus of George Mason University, the city of Fairfax, Virginia promises something for everyone in the family. Wonderful 19th century architecture abounds here – for instance, the stately old Fairfax County Courthouse on Chain Bridge Road. Other monuments on the National Register of Historical Places include the Old County Jail and the Ratcliffe-Logan-Allison House, both located on Main Street. If you want to taste a slice of Americana from the 1950’s, go the 29 Diner on Fairfax Boulevard and order basically anything you want – you’re guaranteed great down home Southern comfort food (including amazing pie).
Fairfax is a relatively rural city, with a population of just a little more than 20,000 people. But the town hosts an impressive number of festivals, events, and cultural activities. You can check out George Mason’s Patriot Center for some hard hitting athletic action. If you visit Virginia in the autumn, attend the Fall for Fairfax Festival to enjoy local culinary delights, fun events for the kids, and great shopping. For nearly two decades, Fairfax has hosted a Chocolate Lover's Festival in the middle of February. Bring your honey to snack on ornately sculpted chocolate goodies.
